Basrah sights this time of year

With the cooler weather, and moisture (it rained again last night), there are more flowers blooming. And there’s standing water all over the place, including these drainage ditches – remember that salt-encrusted ditch from the summer? Well, here it is in winter. Lastly, the other night the whole Al Basra oil refinery was in operation, as well as some pumping stations, and these giant pillars of smoke rose into a sky colored by sunset. The picture just doesn’t do it justice.
