Another quick note to say I'm now in Basra, down south in Shia land near the Arabian Gulf. The C-130 flight was uneventful, if a little choppy from all the swooping to avoid possible ground fire.
It looks like I've traded U.S. Army formality, excellent KBR chow and no alcohol for Brit informality, a monthly beer ration and poor food. Knowing my stomach, I'm not sure I got the best deal!
Living conditions are pretty good, of which more later.
Can't get the jump drive to read on this machine, so no pictures today.
Oh, and no trees. I'm in the middle of a hot, flat pancake of a desert. Not looking forward to that for the next year. Mad dogs and Englishmen, etc.
