An old Soviet tank, rusting away ever slow slowly in the Iraqi desert. You don’t see those everyday.
Talking to an ancient SFC today (he’d been in the Rhodesian Army in the late 1970s) he reminded me again, as we cut around the parade ground in the center of camp, of the phrase “nametag defilade” – which means to keep out of sight, to stay under the radar, etc. He said another common term for round glasses back then was “bicycle eyes”, as in “C’m ‘ere bicycle eyes, clean up this mess.” Good for a chuckle or two.
(I can't remember if I mentioned "nametag defilade" to you all, apologies if I repeat myself)
